'Renascent', the new album by The Durutti Column, is released on Friday 31 July 2026. The album will be available across a number of formats including digital, CD (both with the bonus track 'All They See is Fire') and transparent yellow vinyl. There will also be a limited edition vinyl featuring alternative artwork, pressed on bottle green vinyl and featuring an oversized booklet. The official Durutti Column store will host some very limited editions including a cassette, and a very special edition slipcase version of the album (limited to 1,000 copies worldwide) with alternative artwork, heavyweight black vinyl, a DVD with unique visualisers for every track, 4 art prints and a folded poster. Rough Trade have their own exclusive edition of the album (limited to 500 copies), a split purple / green vinyl version, with a bonus flexi-disc of 'All They See is Fire'.

Intricate yet unflashy, melancholic yet quietly ecstatic, The Durutti Column have always sounded​indelibly, like themselves. Across five decades they have moved fluidly between indie chamber music, modern classical suites, sampledelia, dance experimentation, and flamenco-tinged pop, while remaining unmistakably cornerstone by Vini Reilly's delicate, expressive guitar voice. Now, 46 years after their debut and 16 after their last album, The Durutti Column (a trio of Vini with longstanding drummer / percussionist Bruce Mitchell and producer / instrumentalist Keir Stewart) return with Renascent, a new album that both honours their past and reaffirms their enduring creative vitality.

From their arrival in 1980 with The Return of the Durutti Column, released on Tony Wilson's Factory Records, The Durutti Column stood apart. While post-punk leaned into the urban and the abrasive, Reilly's music was pastoral, romantic, and introspective. In the decades since, that once singular sensibility has quietly reshaped the musical landscape. In recent years a new generation of artists as diverse as Frank Ocean, The Avalanches, Yung Lean, Youth Lagoon and Mark William Lewis have declared or demonstrated Durutti's influence. In the past year Blood Orange sampled 'Sing to Me' for 2025's single 'The Field', and the band was cited by Harry Styles as a key influence on 2026's Kiss All the Time. Disco Occasionally.

Styles has involved the band in his curation of this year's Meltdown Festival, where they will be celebrated with a special concert For Vini: A Tribute to The Durutti Column on 17 June 2026. Renascent producer Keir Stewart (guitar, bass, samples, keys) will be joined by Durutti collaborators Liz Rossi (violin, piano), Caolfhionn Rose (vocals, piano) and Sam Morris (French horn) as they interpret key moments across the band's 6-decade career.

In recent years songs by The Durutti Column have surfaced in major cultural touchstones, from television and gaming soundtracks to high fashion runways. Once existing beyond trends, they now find themselves rediscovered, their work resonating with audiences encountering it anew. Renascent, meaning "being reborn, reviving, springing up afresh", captures both this renewed visibility and a deeper artistic resurgence.

That influence has only grown in recent years. Their music has surfaced in major cultural touchstones, from television and gaming soundtracks to high fashion runways. Once existing beyond trends, The Durutti Column now find themselves rediscovered, their work resonating with audiences encountering it anew. Renascent, meaning "being reborn, reviving, springing up afresh," captures both this renewed visibility and a deeper artistic resurgence.

The album marks the group's first collection of new material since 2010's A Paean to Wilson. It also signals a symbolic return to origins, carrying a Factory Too catalogue number in collaboration with Oliver Wilson, continuing the legacy of Factory Records. Visually, Renascent reunites the band with original Factory design collaborators, Mark Holt and Hamish Muir of 8vo, whose artwork mirrors the music's balance of modernist precision and romantic warmth through rich, sensuous color.

Musically, Renascent exists in a dialogue between past and present. Tracks such as 'Time Present and Time Past' evoke a cyclical sense of motion: forward-looking yet reflective. Reilly's improvisational approach remains central: spontaneous, intuitive, and resistant to formal constraints. "Every single piece of music writes itself," he notes, and the album's recordings preserve that immediacy. Pieces like 'Vapour in a Matchbox' exemplify this ethos, transforming fleeting inspiration into compositions of lasting emotional depth.

Longtime collaborator Bruce Mitchell recalls the instinctive nature of working with Reilly: ideas captured quickly, often in a single take, before they can be overworked. Producer and bassist Keir Stewart expands on this philosophy, emphasizing freedom and presence; capturing creativity in its rawest moment rather than refining it into something overly deliberate.

This approach shaped the making of Renascent, an album assembled over several years in an organic fashion. Recording sessions often took place informally, sometimes in Reilly's own kitchen, with minimal equipment and an emphasis on immediacy. The result is a body of work that feels both intimate and expansive, grounded in the moment yet resonant over time.

A defining feature of the album is its spirit of renewal through reinterpretation. 'For Friends Everywhere' revisits 'For Belgian Friends' (from 1980's A Factory Quartet) has been rendered renascent by producer Keir Stewart's studio needlework. Rearranged as an orchestral octet it transforms a long-standing live favorite into a richly textured piece imbued with reflection and emotional weight. It stands as both a tribute to their past and a continuation into the future.

For Reilly, "empathy is the essence of humanity, if you lose that ability to empathise, it's the deadening of your own soul." Renascent deepens that tradition, with many of its pieces shaped by personal connections and human stories. That empathy is also expressed in the love that Stewart and Mitchell have put into realising Reilly's vision. "Vin's songs are constantly surprising," says Mitchell, "you want to keep on listening to them over and over again." On hearing the completed Renascent Mitchell says: "it's like a child that leaves home for a long time and then they return and you love them all the more all over again."

This empathetic impulse runs through the new album: the first track 'Liars' consists of Reilly repeating "I am sorry, I love you". It's also evident in Renascent being among the most collaborative albums Durutti have made – and not just because of the increased input of Mitchell and particularly of Stewart. Reilly's Manchester neighbour, folktronica artist Caoilfhionn Rose sings on the stately, yearning 'Agonistes' and sings and plays piano on the gorgeous, hymn-like 'Sargasso Sea'.

Despite the passage of time, Reilly's artistic philosophy remains rooted in motion and response. Creativity, for him, is an ongoing process; reactive, immediate, and alive. That sense of momentum carries through Renascent, an album that does not seek to recapture the past but to reanimate it, allowing it to evolve in new and unexpected ways.

Few people are more unpredictable than Reilly, who says, "From the moment we're born we're never ever instigative, only ever reactive. It's like Newton's law of motion, if you're not pushing against anything, you lose momentum." With Renascent The Durutti Column have created an album that feels both timeless and newly awakened; an understated yet powerful statement from an artist still in pursuit of the moment.

2025 marks 45 years since the release of The Durutti Column’s landmark album The Return Of The Durutti Column. To celebrate, London Records announces a very special reissue of the seminal Manchester band’s 1980 debut, set for release on 28 November 2025 and available for pre-order now at the official Durutti Column online store.

The Return Of The Durutti Column remains one of Factory's most enduring and important works: fragile, otherworldly, and quietly radical. Produced by Martin Hannett, it showcased Vini Reilly’s distinctive, delicate guitar work against Hannett’s ambient textures, post-punk reverb and glacial electronics.

The 45th Anniversary Edition is available in several formats:

The Deluxe Sandpaper LP, replicating the rare first pressing and limited to 500 numbered copies worldwide. Each sleeve has been spray-painted by hand with the original catalogue number, FACT 14. This edition includes a unique printed inner sleeve featuring an essay by Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie, housed inside a protective outer cover.

The Standard Edition LP, replicating the second pressing, commonly known as the ‘Dufy’ sleeve (after a featured triptych of images by French painter Jean Dufy), with the outer sleeve printed on the same textured card as the 1980 version. The inner sleeve features an essay by Durutti Column/Factory Records expert James Nice. Rough Trade will stock a unique pressing of this edition as part of their Essentials range, pressed on black-and-white marbled vinyl and limited to 500 copies (with bonus sandpaper postcard) from here.

All vinyl editions have been remastered from the original source tapes, recently rediscovered in a Stockport warehouse, and cut at half-speed for maximum audio fidelity. The tracklisting includes the original album plus 'Untitled' (featured on later iterations), alongside two further tracks: 'Lips That Would Kiss' and 'Madeleine', both originally issued on Factory Records’ Belgian sister label Factory Benelux in autumn 1980.

The Expanded Hardback Book Edition is a 2CD, 38-track collection housed in a tall storybook format with a 48-page booklet. Alongside essays from James Nice and Bobby Gillespie, this edition also includes a new piece by Mojo journalist Ian Harrison. The expanded audio features the vinyl tracklisting plus material from the 1980 bonus flexidisc Testcard, first recordings, studio and home demos, live performances, and several previously unreleased tracks. The artwork reflects the special 1985 boxed cassette edition (part of Factory’s series alongside releases from Joy Division, New Order and A Certain Ratio) and is printed on authentically sourced paper stock.

The first 500 orders from the official store received an exclusive bonus CD, Lost Songs and Sketches, featuring early live recordings and a rare 1981 audio interview with Vini Reilly.

Factory Benelux presents remastered CD and 2LP coloured vinyl editions of Circuses and Bread, the seventh studio album by The Durutti Column. Originally released by Factory Benelux and Factory in 1986, the original 9 tracks have now been expanded with 6 bonus pieces.

The cover art retains the original design by 8vo. The remastered vinyl set is housed in gatefold sleeve, with liner notes and rare band images.

Self-produced by Vini Reilly at Strawberry and Revolution studios, the album saw Durutti playing as a quartet, with Reilly on guitar, vocals and keyboards, Bruce Mitchell in drums and percussion, John Metcalfe (viola) and Tim Kellett (trumpet).

"The music ends up being very simple," Vini told NME. "People can dismiss it as being very simplistic, easy listening or whatever. It's very honest, it's very personal. People say it's ambient, and it's like Eno. I don't like that, because the music's made to be listened to, it's not wallpaper."

Of extended piece Blind Elevator Girl – Osaka, Vini adds: "The music really writes itself. For example, we’re in Osaka, in Japan, getting in this elevator. It"s very crowded with all these Japanese businessmen talking about distribution deals, and going on and on. On this lift was a beautiful Japanese girl, in an immaculate uniform. Each floor we arrived at, she's starting talking Japanese, obviously saying what was on each floor. We went higher and higher, and finally we get to the top. And then, sort of walking out of the elevator, I suddenly realised she was blind... It got to me, this girl. It was incredible. So maybe a day later, I was thinking about that, and the whole tune came out. And every single piece of music is like that."

Bonus tracks include Italian-only EP Greetings Three, scarce compilation track The Aftermath, and a previously unreleased working version of 1987 single Our Lady of the Angels produced by the late Stuart 'Jammer' James.

Cover art retains the original design by 8vo. The remastered set is housed in 6 panel card digipack, with liner notes and rare band images. A double vinyl version of FBN 154 will be issued in March 2021.

Factory Benelux presents expanded double CD and double vinyl editions of Sex and Death, the 11th studio album by The Durutti Column.

Originally released in 1994 on CD only, the album has now been re-mastered with bonus tracks and appears on vinyl for the very first time in a coloured vinyl edition limited to 1500 copies. The vinyl edition is housed in a gatefold vinyl sleeve. Disc 1 is pressed in blue vinyl, and disc 2 in silver.

The 2CD edition is remastered with rare and previously unreleased bonus tracks.

The writing and recording of Sex and Death closed an uncertain period for Vini Reilly and the group following the collapse of Factory Records in 1992. Factory founder Tony Wilson remained in post as manager of the band, but Sex and Death would be their last album with producer Stephen Street, famed for his work with Morrissey, The Smiths and Blur.

Writer and master guitarist Vini Reilly remained philosophical: "People say the Durutti Column is this or that. I don't care, so long as we make good music. There's screaming feedback on some tracks, heavy metal guitar, Spanish picking. It's not just this ethereal trip. Don't listen to the form, never listen to the form. Listen to the content."

Stand-out tracks include Anthony (dedicated to Wilson), The Rest of My Life and believe In Me. Guest musicians include viola player John Metcalfe, vocalist Ruth-Ann Boyle (later to form hitmakers Olive with Tim Kellett), programmer Martin Jackson (Magazine, Swing Out Sister) and bassist Peter Hook, then on furlough from New Order post-Republic.

Of the 10 bonus tracks on CD2, 6 are previously unreleased, having been retrieved from a long-lost DAT tape located in Tony Wilson's personal archive. The other 4 are album outtakes previously only available as an online download. All tracks have been newly re-mastered in 2020 by Peter Beckmann and Technology Works.

A limited edition 2LP coloured vinyl edition is also available housed in a gatefold vinyl sleeve and limited to 1500 copies.

Les Disques du Crépuscule 40th anniversary editions of iconic compilation From Brussels With Love. Bearing the catalogue number TWI 007, From Brussels With Love was the very first release on Crépuscule back in November 1980, and now returns in 2020 on cassette, gatefold 2xLP (coloured vinyl), and 2xCD hardback 60-page 10-inch square earbook.

Originally released as a cassette with a 16-page booklet packaged in a PVC wallet, From Brussels With Love featured 21 exclusive tracks from the international avant-garde and new wave, as well as contributions from the celebrated Factory Records roster. Then, as now, the featured artists include A Certain Ratio, Gavin Bryars, Harold Budd, Thomas Dolby, Dome, The Durutti Column, John Foxx, Martin Hannett, Richard Jobson, The Names, Bill Nelson, Kevin Hewick + New Order, Michael Nyman and Der Plan.

Factory Benelux presents an expanded 2CD (3CD counting the special 1-track optional bonus disc of 'I Know Very Well How I Got My Note Wrong') edition of Vini Reilly, the acclaimed seventh studio album. Originally released by Factory Records in 1989, the album has now been newly remastered with 23 bonus tracks including companion single WOMAD Live.

Produced by Vini Reilly and Stephen Street (The Smiths, Morrissey, Blur), the original working title of the Vini Reilly album was The Durutti Column Sampler. "People describe them as found samples and found voices," explained Vini at the time. "I always build up a catalogue of interesting loops and voice samples and stuff. Then I forget where I got them from a lot of the time, which is quite convenient... A lot of the time I manipulate the sample anyway, so it's singing my tune, rather than the original tune."

Stand-out tracks include Otis, Love No More and My Country. "The tune always comes from playing the guitar," added Vini. "As soon as I pick a guitar up I'll come up with a tune. I don't know whether it's good or bad - but there's always a tune there."

The sleeve itself samples Bob Dylan circa Highway 61 Revisited, showcasing an iconic portrait by Mark Warner. Indeed much about the album flirts with mainstream culture, being a deliberate attempt to position Reilly as a 'pop' artist following his chart-topping collaboration with Morrissey on Viva Hate. This collaboration was further celebrated on bonus track For Steven Patrick.

Other bonus tracks on this 2020 double-disc remaster include a multitude of demos and outtakes from the same period (some previously issued on The Sporadic Recordings in 1989), plus all four tracks from pristine performance CD WOMAD Live. Recorded at the WOMAD Festival in Cornwall in August 1988, the core Durutti duo of Vini Reilly and Bruce Mitchell are here augmented by Andy Connell on keys and Chinese opera singer Liu Sola.

Factory Benelux presents a deluxe 3CD box set edition of Obey the Time, the eighth studio album by The Durutti Column. Originally released by Factory Records in December 1990, the original 10 tracks have now been expanded to no less than 43.

Largely self-produced, and entirely instrumental, Obey the Time saw Vini Reilly further develop his interest in electronic music, and even embracing house and techno stylings. "The title came screaming off the TV screen in somebody's version of Othello and captured exactly the feel of the work in progress," explained Tony Wilson, Durutti manager and Factory founder. "We were in the middle of the Acieeed explosion. If you lived in Manchester, you were absolutely in the middle of it. Vini even explained why House made keyboards sound so fresh. Something to do with a chord being played with 3 or 4 notes into the sampler, but then different chords being triggered by a single key stroke. Creating mathematical harmonic relationships 'which Schoenberg had searched for but never found.'"

Indeed veteran Durutti percussionist Bruce Mitchell features on just one track, Art and Freight. Marking a further break with tradition, dance exploration Contra-Indications was taped with New Order programmer (and later co-manager) Andy Robinson. Released in December 1990, Obey the Time (Fact 274) would be the last Durutti Column album on Factory before the labelled collapsed beneath a mountain of debt.

The multitude of studio extras spread across Discs 1 and 2 include single and remix tracks The Together Mix and Kiss of Def, rare compilation cuts such as The New Fidelity, The Awards Show and Times Like These, and several extracts from two unreleased Factory albums recorded during the same 1989/90 period: Guitar One: House (Fact 254) and Guitar Two: Acoustic (Fact 264).

Disc 3 features 11 live tracks from a previously unreleased performance at Manchester University Whitworth Hall on 23 June 1990 (opportunistically billed as 'The Acid Guitar'), on which Reilly and Mitchell are joined by guests Andy Connell, Liu Sola and Rob Gray.

Factory Benelux presents expanded 4CD and 2LP disc editions of Without Mercy, the fourth album by Manchester ensemble The Durutti Column, originally released in 1984 and widely regarded as Vini Reilly's most ambitious album.

In 1983 The Durutti Column's mentor/manager Tony Wilson asked Vini Reilly to abandon fleeting guitar miniatures in favour of a longform modern classical piece. The result was an ambitious 20 minute instrumental suite, Without Mercy, performed by core Durutti duo Vini Reilly and Bruce Mitchell along with Blaine L. Reininger and John Metcalfe (violas), Caroline Lavelle (cello), Tim Kellett (trumpet) and Maunagh Fleming (cor anglais).

Explains Vini: "Tony had just come in for a conversation one day and said, 'Look, you keep making these albums that you want to make, and I'm quite happy with you doing that, but just give me this one album and do it my way.' He wanted it to have a narrative determined by a Keats poem, La Belle Dame Sans Merci, which he said was the poet's version of a pop song: boy meets girl, falls in love with girl, loses girl, blah blah blah. It was a very, very Tony way of looking at it. He had aspirations that I should be taken seriously."

Produced by Reilly and Wilson at Strawberry Studio and Britannia Row, Without Mercy was originally split into 19 separate stanzas, some of which have now been restored using digital cue points on the CD. Bonus tracks include the original recordings of Duet, Estoril a Noite and Favourite Descending Intervals (all re-worked for inclusion on Without Mercy), as well as companion EP Say What You Mean, Mean What You Say, collaborations with John Metcalfe, Steven Brown and Benjamin Lew, and two previously unreleased live sets across Discs 3 and 4, recorded at London School of Economics in December 1984 and Oslo in December 1986.

The remastered 4xCD set is housed in a clamshell box, with inner wallets and liner notes by Reilly, Wilson, Mitchell, Reininger and Metcalfe. The cover painting is L'Etang de Trivaux by Henri Matisse (1916/17).

A double gatefold vinyl edition is also available with free digital copy (MP3) of the vinyl tracks. The outer sleeve is printed on 500 mic grey cairn board, with letterpress typography and tipped sheets front and back. The insert (with liner notes) is printed on a 350gsm white frost card, and the whole package housed in a re-sealable polybag.

M24J (Anthology) is a collection of valuable passages recorded by The Durutti Column between 1979 and 20?? for various iterations of Factory Records, including poignant tributes to Anthony H. Wilson and Ian Curtis.

Available as a gatefold double vinyl (with bonus 7") and 2xCD set, M24J includes selections from The Return of the Durutti Column, LC, Another Setting, Short Stories for Pauline, Without Mercy, Circuses and Bread, The Guitar and Other Machines, Vini Reilly, Obey the Time, Treatise on the Steppenwolf and A Paean to Wilson.

Bonus tracks on the CD version include three tracks recorded live at Leeds Polytechnic on 7 October 1980 (with The Invisible Girls and John Cooper Clarke), these being the earliest preserved professional in-concert recordings by Vini Reilly. The bonus 7" included in the vinyl package features two previously unreleased live recordings: a cover of Peter Green's Albatross recorded in 2004, and Spooky Tune, recorded with Poppy Morgan at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester in 2011, Vini's last major concert to date.

The remastered 2xCD set is housed in a jewel case; copies ordered direct from FBN are delivered in a Factory Benelux slipcase. The vinyl version is housed in a double gatefold sleeve printed on white matt board and includes as a digital copy (MP3).

Expanded 3CD deluxe edition of the sixth studio album originally released by Factory Records in 1987.

The origin of The Guitar and Other Machines was the Christmas present given by Factory founder Tony Wilson to Durutti mainman Vini Reilly in 1985. "He gave me another kick and bought me a load of electronic instruments," revealed Reilly at the time. "I never dreamt of getting into this electronic thing, and I struggled and fought and stayed up til half seven in the morning and really worked on it. I know that Tony's got this vision and I persevered. And I found a way of using a sequencer that isn't like New Order – it's my way, and it's my music."

Produced by Stephen Street (The Smiths; Morrissey), the album also features percussionist Bruce Mitchell and viola player John Metcalfe. Remastered in 2017, this new FBN edition restores all three bonus tracks included on the original Factory CD, being experimental pieces written and recorded with Jez Kerr and Simon Topping of A Certain Ratio.

CD2 features many associated recordings, including the rare Greetings 3 EP (released only in Italy), non-album tracks such as Our Lady of the Angels, LFO Mod, acoustic instrumental Catos con Guantes, various mixes of When the World, Jefferson Airplane cover White Rabbit, and several ‘sporadic recordings' which revisit themes first heard on the original album.

CD3 features a recording of the band live at the Bottom Line club in NYC in October 1987, plus two further live tracks from WOMAD in August 1988.

The 3CD set is housed in a clamshell box with individual interior wallets. A 2LP vinyl edition will also be available, featuring the core studio album plus live versions of selected album tracks on Disc 2.
